Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou on Saturday after his first eight games in all competitions without recording a single win in charge at the Midlands.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout last month, following the Portuguese manager’s bust-up with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

The Australian manager has endured a torrid start to life at the City Grounds since his move from Spurs, where he won the Europa League trophy with them in his second season.

The Reds hosted Chelsea at the City Grounds in the Premier League early kick-off encounter that seemed to be one of the toughest encounters that could rescue Postecoglou from being sacked earlier than expected.

However, the owner, Marinakos, couldn’t wait any longer – he had seen enough to make a final call on the struggling manager after just a few games. It turned out to be yet another disastrous campaign for the 60-year-old.

Marinakos stormed out of his corporate seat early in the second half and didn’t return for the rest of the disappointing scenes at home. Postecoglou, who lasted only 39 days at Forest, is the only manager in Forest history to go winless in his first eight games.

Two Chelsea goals in three minutes at the start of the second half left Forest up against it once again – and the Greek Bankroller of the club had seen enough in just 67 minutesv-Forest were 2-0 down.

Despite having chances throughout the game, second-half goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, while Chelsea captain Reece James added a third goal late on to spark a mass exodus at the City Ground.

In a statement, the club said: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

“The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou’s sacking also comes less than 24 hours following his passionate defence of his record.

“I said last year [while in charge at Tottenham], in my second year, I always win things, right? And what’s the key to that?” He said.

“That I’m there in my second year, because it takes a bit of time. But the story always ends the same: you leave me here, let me do my job, it’ll end the same … with a trophy.

“If I don’t and I’m removed, well, what can I do about it? I can’t win in this situation in terms of trying to convince people. You either see what you see or you don’t; either way it doesn’t affect me.”

Forest have already been linked with possible replacements, with Sean Dyche’s name mentioned.
