Nottingham striker Taiwo Awoniyi out of induced coma after surgery

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is out of an induced coma following surgery to repair a ruptured intestine.
The Nigeria forward collided with a goalpost during Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Sunday.
The incident sparked concern when club chairman Evangelos Marinakis confronted manager Nuno Espirito Santo on the pitch immediately after full-time.

Awoniyi received prolonged medical attention on the field and initially signalled that he was okay to continue playing, despite Forest having used all their substitutes.

However, the 27-year-old appeared to be struggling, prompting plans for a full review to determine why medical staff allowed him to return to the game, according to BBC Sport.
Awoniyi was placed in an induced coma on Tuesday and underwent a second operation on Wednesday to close the wound in his abdominal area. He woke up later that evening.

He is now ruled out of Nottingham Forest’s final two Premier League matches this season.
The Midlands club currently sit seventh after winning just one of their last six games, but still have an outside chance of securing a Champions League spot if they finish strongly and results elsewhere go their way.
