Nsoatreman FC captain Daniel Afadzwu has made a startling revelation, disclosing that he was attacked by a passenger in a cab while in Sunyani.
Speaking to Kumasi based Akoma FM on Wednesday, Afadzwu stated the alleged assailant accused him and his team of being responsible for the death of Nana Pooley, a supporter who tragically lost his life during their Ghana Premier League match with Asante Kotoko.
According to Afadzwu, the confrontation occurred when the passenger recognized him in the cab and launched a verbal assault.
The Nsoatreman captain stated that he has been subjected to insults and harassment, even during training sessions.
“I do not think I can wear the Nsoatreman jersey to Baba Yara Stadium,” Afadzwu admitted. “Even here in Sunyani, I was attacked by a passenger who accused us of killing the supporter (Nana Pooley).”
Afadzwu recounted the traumatic experience, stating that some individuals would insult him during training sessions. He also expressed concerns about the team’s safety, citing an incident where players were intimidated by the presence of guns.
“If I were the club manager, I would not have allowed the team to play Samartex in Bibiani,” Afadzwu said. “Some of us have never seen a gun before, but on that day, we nearly had one aimed at us, and when we got to Bibiani, some of the players began to cry.”
In light of the ongoing challenges and safety concerns, Nsoatreman FC has officially withdrawn from the Ghana Premier League, effective March 14.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has subsequently announced that any opponent scheduled to play Nsoatreman FC will be awarded three points and three goals, in accordance with the GFA’s regulations.
