Spain midfielder Pedri Gonzalez has opened up on his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or this season after putting up a consistent set of performances for FC Barcelona.
Pedri netted the winning penalty for La Roja in their UEFA Nations League second-leg quarter final clash against the Netherlands and explained what his ambitions are for the final bit of the season to the press after the match.
To the 22-year-old, he would rather win a treble with FC Barcelona this season than grab the legendary golden ball award this year.
“Why not thinking about the Treble?, I’d rather win the treble than the Ballon d’Or”, he said.
FC Barcelona have struggled over the last five years in the UEFA Champions League and also have just one La Liga title in the last five seasons.
To Pedri, the goal for the season is a collective one, rather than a personal agenda. FC Barcelona remain in pole position to complete Pedri’s dream as they sit top of the standings in La Liga and are two games away from winning the Spanish Cup.
Also in the Champions League, Barca take on Borussia Dortmund in the last eight of the competition, aiming for a place in the semi-final- a feat they haven’t attained in five years.
Pedri has got his eyes on a stellar end to the season, yet his availability and performances will have to remain at top level if Barca stand a chance of winning the treble for the third time in 16 years.
