Police Ladies drawn in Group B for WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers

The Police Ladies won their first-ever Women’s Premier League title by defeating Ampem Darkoa.

Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Police Ladies, have been placed in Group B of the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Accra-based side will face Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Sportive de la Kozah of Togo, and Sam Nelly of Benin. The draw was conducted and supervised by CAF officials at their headquarters in Abidjan on Thursday, August 14, 2024.

Group A will see ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, USFA of Burkina Faso, and AS Garde Nationale of Benin battling for the other available spot.

This marks Police Ladies’ first appearance in the Women’s Champions League qualifiers. Former Hasaacas Ladies head coach Yussif Basigi will lead the technical team, stepping in for Abu Kassim Tabasu, who does not hold the required CAF license to continue as head coach in the competition.

Kassim, who guided Police Ladies to their maiden league title by beating Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2024/25 final, will serve as assistant coach.

The WAFU Zone B qualifiers, which act as the gateway to the continental competition, will be staged in Cote d’Ivoire later this month.

The tournament brings together women’s league champions from seven West African nations, with only the winners progressing to the main CAF Women’s Champions League.

Police Ladies, boasting a blend of experienced campaigners and promising young talents, aim to follow in the footsteps of Ghanaian trailblazers Hasaacas Ladies FC and secure a place at Africa’s top women’s club competition.

The WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers is scheduled to get underway on August 23 in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
