President John Mahama expresses confidence in Black Stars amid slump

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his unwavering belief in the Black Stars’ ability to overcome their recent struggles in major tournaments.
During a visit to the team’s training camp, Mahama voiced strong support for the squad, urging them to rise to the occasion and capitalise on the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The president made an unexpected visit to the Black Stars’ training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, accompanied by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
Adams has been a consistent presence in the team’s camp since training began on Monday.

Addressing the players and technical staff, President Mahama acknowledged the team’s recent slump but expressed full confidence in their capacity to turn things around.
“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified for the AFCON, we crashed out very early the last time. And so we haven’t given up on you,” John Mahama said.
“We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again. And it’s dependent on you, the technical team, and the management committee.”
John Dramani Mahama emphasised that the team’s success depends on their collective effort to elevate their performance and play to their full potential.

He reminded the players that the nation is behind them, but it is ultimately up to them to take their game to the next level and deliver on the pitch.
“The goals will come from these very feet standing here,” Mahama added.
“It takes sacrifice, it takes strength. We all enjoy watching you play for your clubs, and we expect you to bring that same dedication to the national team.”
Currently sitting third in the group following Madagascar’s victory over the Central African Republic, these upcoming fixtures are crucial for Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes.
The Black Stars will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, before travelling to Morocco to play Madagascar on Monday, March 24.
