Raphinha has revealed that his ‘choice of words were not the best’ ahead of Brazil’s clash against Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in the March international break.

Prior to the game, the Barca marksman sat with legend Romario, where they both made offensive remarks on Argentina. Brazil unfortunately fell at the hands of Lionel Scaloni’s men in a heavy 4-1 defeat in that game, leading Raphinha to eat back his words.

Speaking to the press after FC Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, the Brazilian explained why he made those comments, indicating that it was all to defend his nation against their long-term rivals.

“Maybe the words I used wasn’t the best, but my mindset when I wear the national team shirt is clear. It’s about defending the national team shirt, defending my country”, Raphinha told TNT Sports.

“What matters to me is defending my own, whether it’s with the national team or here at Barcelona. If I have to fight, I do it”, he added.
