Richarlison nears Tottenham return as Flamengo’s bid rejected

Richarlison is closing in on a return for Tottenham Hotspur following his latest injury setback, with reports suggesting the club turned down a bid from Flamengo in January.

According to the Daily Mail, the Brazilian forward could be available for Spurs’ upcoming Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt next week after recovering from his latest injury layoff.

The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating season, making just 14 appearances in all competitions due to recurring hamstring and calf issues.

Despite his struggles, Flamengo reportedly attempted to sign Richarlison in January, submitting a bid of £16 million ($21m).

However, Tottenham swiftly rejected the offer, with the club valuing him at nearly double that amount.

Fluminense, Richarlison’s former club, are also said to be interested in bringing him back to Brazil, but the player is not currently considering a return, given the challenges of moving back to Europe afterward.

Tottenham, who sit 14th in the Premier League, are in desperate need of a turnaround.

Advancing past Frankfurt in the Europa League could be crucial for manager Ange Postecoglou’s future, as winning the competition would secure Champions League qualification despite their disappointing domestic campaign.
