Ruben Amorim calls for calm following Liverpool win

Manchester United beat Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 2016

Ruben Amorim calls for calm

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has called for calm, urging his players not to get carried away following their dramatic 2-1 away victory over Liverpool last weekend.

The Portuguese boss achieved a significant win against the Reds that had eluded the Red Devils in many years, as they look to make it three Premier League wins in a row against Brighton on Saturday.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire secured the club’s first win at Anfield since 2016, when Wayne Rooney clinched a close contest under Louis van Gaal’s management.

United’s recent victory over Liverpool marked their first back-to-back Premier League wins under Amorim, following the 2-0 triumph over Sunderland earlier this month.

Amorim emphasises the need for his players to stay grounded, noting that Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo—who struck the woodwork three times—was agonizingly close to ending his team’s victory drought on Merseyside.

When questioned about his post-Liverpool game remarks, where Amorim told the media to “stick to their narrative” about United and whether he and his players thrive on such scepticism, the former Sporting CP manager responded:

“No, what I mean is that we cannot change so much. I think they ask me about top four in the end of the question. So, I don’t want to change so much with the difference of 20 centimetres.

“If [Cody] Gakpo shot 20 centimetres here, the narrative would be completely different. So, I just want to maintain some calm, some direction in what we are doing. That’s what I mean.

“There is doubts if you are a manager in this kind of club, [and] you don’t win a lot of games, people are going to doubt you.

“And they have reasons for that, but my point of view is that we need to be clear on our path and not changing so much because we win one game, that’s all.”
