Tottenham defender Cristian Romero opens door to summer exit amid Atletico links

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has hinted at a potential summer departure, amid growing links with Atletico Madrid.
The Argentina international joined Spurs from Atalanta in 2021, initially on loan before making the move permanent, and has since made over 100 appearances for the club.
However, injuries have hampered his consistency, particularly this season, where he has been among several key players sidelined during what has been a turbulent campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

Monday night’s 2-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest marked Romero’s 18th league appearance of the season.
His most significant absence came in December, when he suffered a hamstring injury that sidelined him for over two months.
Since making his return in early March, Cristian Romero has captained Tottenham in four of their six league matches.
The most recent of these, against Forest, saw Spurs unable to recover from early goals by Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood, which helped secure a 2-1 win for the visitors.
With club captain Son Heung-min absent, Romero also wore the armband during Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final victory away to Eintracht Frankfurt.

While European success remains a key target for the defender, a recent interview revealed that Romero is reluctant to make any predictions about what his future may hold after the season.
“We’re in the Europa League semi-finals, and I want to finish the season on a high note,” Romero is quoted as saying by Los Edul.
“After that, we’ll see. My focus is always on growing and looking for new places to continue developing.”
Atletico Madrid are among the clubs showing interest in the defender and could push to secure his signature ahead of the Club World Cup in June.
