FC Barcelona entrenched themselves over opponents Benfica in their UEFA Champions League last 16 second-leg clash at the Olympic Stadium, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
The Blaugrana began the game on the front foot and were already ahead on the night after only 10 minutes after Yamal found Raphinha in the box with the Brazilian slotting home the through ball.
Only two minutes later, Benfica found themselves level through an Otamendi header from a well-swung cross from a corner kick.
However, the Catalans would not be pecked back. Minutes after they conceded, Lamine Yamal exploded into life from the left hand side of the opposition box, bending the ball in to restore Barca’s lead.
Two goals clear on aggregate was enough to calm the fans at the Stadium, yet the celebrations got even better when Raphinha grabbed his second on the night to ultimately confirm Barca’s place in the last eight.
The 4-1 aggregate win means the Blaugrana secured a second straight quarter final place for the first time in five years in the Champions League.
The last time they attained this feat was in 2020 when they went on to lose to Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich in an embarrassing 8-2 result.
This time however, the man who inflicted the pain steers the wheel for them, and Flick will be aiming to go all the way as Barca take on the winner of the Borussia Dortmund- Lille tie next.
