Wolves reject Newcastle bid for striker Strand Larsen

Newcastle United dealt another transfer blow, Wolves turn down a £50 million bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen

Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned down Newcastle United’s £50 million bid for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, as the Magpies continue their imminent search for a frontman this summer.

Eddie Howe’s side have yet again been dealt a big blow in their pursuit after missing out on other striker targets to fellow Premier League giants.

Newcastle are eager to sign the Norwegian international, who joined Wolves from La Liga‘s Celta Vigo—initially on loan—before securing a permanent move at the start of July.

However, Wolves have no intention of selling the 25-year-old, and sources close to the club suggest Newcastle are unlikely to meet their valuation within this transfer window.

Newcastle have added Strand Larsen to the list of potential attacking incomings, following the striker’s exploits, bagging 14 goals in 34 Premier League appearances for Wolves last season.

Aside from the Norwegian striker, the Magpies are keen on adding Brentford forward Yoane Wissa to their attacking ranks.

However, the Bees have been reluctant to lose the DR Congo international following the summer exit of fellow attacking partner Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

Wissa has not featured for Brentford since Newcastle’s talks began, and his eagerness for the move intensified last week when he removed all traces of his association with the club from his social media accounts.

Brentford are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of £50 million after rejecting a £40 million offer from Newcastle for the 28-year-old.

Newcastle’s search for new strikers amid doubts over Alexander Isak’s future and the departure of Callum Wilson in June has been a rollercoaster of disappointment throughout the journey.

Isak has gone on strike in an attempt to force a move to Liverpool, but the club remains resolute on keeping the Swedish striker beyond transfer deadline day on 1 September.
