Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was hospitalized on Sunday after experiencing a rapid heartbeat due to physical stress, according to reports from Saudi Arabia.
The Serbian international had only just returned to action after a lengthy injury layoff.
Mitrovic made his comeback on Friday, scoring a crucial 89th-minute goal in Al-Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League.
The goal marked a triumphant return for the former Newcastle and Fulham forward, who had been sidelined for two months with a hamstring injury – the longest spell out of action in his career.
Despite playing just under 30 minutes in his first match back, Mitrovic’s exertion appears to have taken a toll.
Al-Hilal released a statement confirming that their medical team had decided to rest him from Sunday’s training session after he experienced symptoms of fatigue and arrhythmia.
“The medical staff has decided to rest Aleksandar Mitrovic from Sunday’s training due to feeling fatigue and arrhythmias. He will be observed by specialists, as his case will be monitored constantly.” – Al-Hilal
Fortunately, Mitrovic has since been discharged from the hospital without complications, though his condition will continue to be monitored.
Mitrovic’s Impact at Al-Hilal
Since joining Al-Hilal from Fulham in 2023 for a reported £50million – making him the club’s record signing at the time – Mitrovic has been a prolific force in front of goal.
He has netted 61 goals and provided 11 assists in just 68 appearances, quickly establishing himself as one of the Saudi Pro League’s top strikers.
Prior to his move to the Middle East, Mitrovic was a key figure for Fulham, where he made 206 appearances across multiple Premier League and Championship campaigns.
Known for his physicality, finishing ability, and leadership on the pitch, the Serbian has carried that form into his time with Al-Hilal.
A Challenging Period for the Serbian Striker
Speaking after his comeback game, Mitrovic reflected on the difficulties he faced during his injury layoff.
“It has been a tough two and a half months for me,” he admitted. “I had some problems with my hamstring—injury after injury.”
While his return to action was a promising sign for Al-Hilal, the club will be cautious in managing his fitness going forward.
With crucial league fixtures ahead, as well as a deep run in the AFC Champions League in sight, the Saudi giants will be hoping their star forward makes a full recovery without further setbacks.
For now, Mitrovic’s health remains the top priority, and both club officials and fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on his condition in the coming days.
