Man United’s Dermot Mee could start against Leicester if Andre Onana fails fitness test

Manchester United’s young goalkeeper Dermot Mee could be in line to start against Leicester City on Sunday evening if Andre Onana fails a late fitness test.

The Red Devils are already without second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and third-choice shot-stopper Tom Heaton due to injury.

Ruben Amorim provided an update on the pair last month.

“Tom is making a recovery,” the 40-year-old said:

“Again, I don’t have a specific timeline, but both Heaton and Bayindir are recovering.”

With both Bayindir and Heaton unavailable, Onana is now facing a late fitness test ahead of United’s Premier League match away at Leicester City.

Since joining from Inter Milan in July 2023, Onana has been ever-present in the Premier League for United

Onana was feeling unwell in the morning, prompting the club to prepare for either academy goalkeeper Dermot Mee or Elyh Harrison to step in if Onana is ruled out for the 7pm kick-off.

Mee, who signed a new contract with United in August, was part of the young squad that travelled to San Diego for a pre-season training camp and friendly against Wrexham, though he didn’t feature in the match.

He joined United in 2019 and has frequently trained with the first team at Carrington, learning from more experienced goalkeepers and supporting them.
