Ibrahim Tanko, the head coach of Medeama SC, has emphasized the need of his squad finishing games early in order to prevent late pressure.

On Matchday 21 of the Ghana Premier League, the Miners defeated Basake Holy Stars 2-1 after a fierce battle. Medeama had to rely on a late goal from Derrick Fordjour to secure the three points, even though they had created multiple opportunities and even missed a penalty.

Ibrahim Tanko thinks it’s concerning that his side lacks a killing instinct.

“I’m proud of my team, and winning always feels great. The boys have been performing well in every home game, but as I’ve said before, we need to learn how to kill games in the first half because we create plenty of chances,” Tanko said after the match.

With the victory, Medeama moves up to fourth place in the Ghana Premier League standings with 38 points, their second straight win.

Bibiani Goldstars are currently top of the Ghana Premier League table with 44 points, followed closely by Asante Kotoko who have 43 points.

Medeama last won the Premier League trophy in the 2022/23 season, going all the way to the CAF Champions League group stage.

Tanko joined Medeama shortly before the league went on an enforced break due to the unfortunate death of Nana Pooley, a big Asante Kotoko fan.

The 47-year-old has a wealth of experience, having managed the Black Meteors and Accra Lions in the past.

As a player, Tanko featured for Borussia Dortmund, King Faisal and Freiburg.
