Three Premier League clubs battle for Wolves star

United, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest are eager to sign the Brazilian star

Matheus Cunha

Three Premier League clubs namely Arsenal, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest are reportedly in the running to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha in the summer.

Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause that goes into effect this summer.

Arsenal has also been monitoring Cunha, although players like Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Viktor Gyokeres are higher on their list for both the left flank and number nine spots.

Cunha is still a target for Nottingham Forest, but even if Forest makes it to the Champions League, people close to the player believe he would rather play for a big-six team.

In order to fit within Ruben Amorim’s strict 3-4-2-1 style, United is searching for a number 10.

It is believed that Cunha’s agent has already made some preliminary contact with United and will shortly travel to England for in-person meetings with possible bidders.

After being sent off against Bournemouth, the 25-year-old has been suspended and has missed Wolves’ last four games.

After a confrontation with Milos Kerkez in the FA Cup fifth round match, Cunha was sent off.

When he won against Ipswich in the Premier League on Saturday, his three-match suspension was increased to four.

Since then, Wolves have won their last three games and gone four games without a loss.

With seven games left, Vitor Pereira’s team is now 12 points ahead of the bottom three thanks to those wins.

Cunha will be eligible to play again on Sunday against Tottenham at home.

He still leads Wolves in scoring this season with 15 goals in all competitions, despite the absence.

After an initial loan stint in 2023, he signed a permanent contract with Atletico Madrid, which he extended in February.

The new four-year contract Cunha signed with the Premier League club is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2029.

As he continues to develop Old Trafford, Amorim is eager to increase his attacking alternatives.

This season, current attackers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have combined for just 14 goals in all competitions. It is unlikely to stop prospective suitors from making overtures this summer, though.

When the transfer window reopens, Cunha has also been linked to moves to Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.

The most recent team to express interest in signing the Wolves star is United.
