Ruben Amorim offers Marcus Rashford a glimmer of hope at Man United

Ruben Amorim has provided a potential lifeline for Marcus Rashford, hinting that the forward could still have a future at Manchester United.

Rashford, who joined Aston Villa on loan in January, is widely expected to leave his boyhood club permanently this summer.

Amorim had previously sidelined Rashford from the United squad in December and is planning to make significant changes to his roster during the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, in a press conference ahead of United’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on Sunday, the manager suggested that all options are still on the table regarding Rashford’s future.

Rashford has not yet discussed his future and is unlikely to do so until mid-June

“When you put a player on loan the best thing is for them to perform,” Amorim said.

“All these [loan] players have talent and they have to put that on the team.”

Marcus Rashford isn’t the only Manchester United player currently out on loan, with Jadon Sancho (Chelsea), Antony (Real Betis), and Tyrell Malacia (PSV Eindhoven) also spending time away from Old Trafford.

Rashford has been in excellent form since his move to Aston Villa, registering four goals and six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions.

His performances have caught the attention of Villa manager Unai Emery, who has recently started him ahead of Ollie Watkins in key fixtures.

“The talent of Rashford, the talent of Antony, they all have talent,” Amorim added. “We are really happy because if you put players on loan you want them to perform. That is good for us.”

Aston Villa hold a £40million option to purchase Rashford at the end of his loan spell, and Man United had seemed open to the idea of cashing in as they prepare for a busy summer transfer window.

Rashford’s contract at his boyhood club runs until June 2028.
