Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong on verge of signing for Liverpool

Frimpong has a €40m release clause, which Liverpool are willing to meet

According to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong is on the verge of joining Liverpool.

The 24-year-old is in advanced talks with the Reds, with the deal said to be close to completion. Only a few minor details remain before the transfer can be finalised.

Jeremie Frimpong, who has three years remaining on his contract with Leverkusen, has a €40million release clause, which Liverpool are willing to meet.

The Dutch international is expected to sign a five-year deal at Anfield.

Liverpool have been actively searching for a high-quality right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s announcement that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

French outlet L’Équipe previously reported that AS Monaco’s Vanderson is also on the Reds’ radar as a potential replacement.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the right-back position his own since his first-team debut in 2016

Liverpool boss Arne Slot had already discussed the club’s transfer plans and acknowledged that bringing in a replacement may not be easy.

He told Sky Sports: “I think it would be a surprise if I were to tell you now ‘Yes, we we are looking at this and looking at that’.

“We don’t talk about contracts here so we don’t talk about the positions or if we want to improve the team in certain areas.

“That’s the most difficult thing for a club like Liverpool if you just won the league is that it is not easy to find better players than we already have.

“And if they are there then they still need to be affordable and need to want to come. That last thing is mostly not a problem, by the way, but transfer fees sometimes are.”

Alexander-Arnold did not feature in Slot’s starting XI against Arsenal last week, with Conor Bradley preferred at right-back.

Liverpool will return to action on May 19 when they face Brighton away in their penultimate match of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
