Frimpong is eager to join Liverpool, meaning personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle

Liverpool are progressing in negotiations to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, with growing confidence from the player’s camp that a deal to bring him to Anfield will be completed, according to The Athletic.

Frimpong is eager to join the Reds, meaning personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle.

The 24-year-old right-back’s release clause – believed to be around €35million (£29.6m) – is considered attractive by the Premier League champions.

Leverkusen are aware of Liverpool’s interest, and both the German club and the Netherlands international expect the situation to be resolved swiftly after the conclusion of the Bundesliga season on Saturday.

Frimpong has emerged as one of the most sought-after right-backs in Europe, having played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign.

He recorded 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last season.

Although he signed a contract extension with Leverkusen until 2028 in October 2023, the Dutchman now looks likely to depart this summer.

This season, Frimpong has featured 48 times under manager Xabi Alonso, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.

Despite only making his senior debut for the Netherlands in 2023, Frimpong has already earned 12 caps.

Notably, he qualifies as a ‘homegrown’ player in England due to his time in Manchester City’s academy during his youth development.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set to join Real Madrid when his Liverpool contract expires in June.
