Inter Milan identify Atletico Madrid star as key summer target

Inter Milan have reportedly set their sights on Atletico Madrid midfield dynamo Rodrigo De Paul as a key summer target to bolster their squad.

The Nerazzurri are already planning ahead of their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, with reports indicating that they have already opened talks with the World Cup winner.

According to Fichajes, the club considers De Paul the “perfect fit” in their quest to revamp their midfield for next season.

Despite being held in high regard by Atleti, the Italian club is adamant that a deal can be struck with the La Liga giants, with the Madrid side reportedly willing to sell.

De Paul has gained loads of experience playing in different leagues, which makes the Serie A club more assured that he would fit in easily.

The Argentine spent five years in Serie A with Udinese, eventually captaining the side in 2020.

However, the 30-year-old won’t be easy to price away from Atletico, as Diego Simeone considers De Paul an integral part of the squad.

Despite being a mainstay at the Spanish capital, issues of Financial Fair Play linger, and the need to balance the books might push the Madrid board to accept the deal for the right price.

Only a good offer of interest from the Italian side can convince the Atletico hierarchy to sell – De Paul’s contract expires in 2026.

It’s also known that the Argentine was thinking of a move to Saudi Arabia after the 2022 World Cup win, and it might be time for the Spanish club to cut their losses, rather than lose him for free.
