Mohamed Salah highlights differences between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp

Mohamed Salah has highlighted the differences between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp, hinting at a strained relationship with the former Liverpool manager.

Slot took over at the Reds last summer following Klopp’s departure after nearly a decade at Anfield.

The Dutch coach faced a tough challenge but excelled, leading the Reds to their 20th English top-flight title in the 2024/25 campaign.

Liverpool also reached the final of the Carabao Cup under his guidance.

After a successful season with Slot, Salah opened up about the contrasting styles of the Dutch coach and Klopp.

The Egyptian winger also hinted at a difficult relationship with Klopp, while revealing a close personal bond with the current head coach.

Speaking to Egyptian TV channel On Sport after the club’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Salah said: “Every coach has a different style of play but I talk a lot with Slot and we understand each other very well.

“Unlike Klopp, we sit a lot and talk, he was honest with me from the beginning and told me that he wants to get the best out of me and I told him that I want to be comfortable on the pitch.” Salah also hailed Klopp for “giving too much to the club”.

Salah also revealed that he came very close to joining the Saudi Pro League before ultimately signing a new contract with Liverpool.

The 32-year-old added: “It was a good opportunity to me, if I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool it would have happened. My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.”

“The negotiations were long, I know the club’s policy [in negotiations], we reached a middle ground that made us all happy.

“Part of the pressure on the club came from the fans, I know from the start that they wanted me to continue, and they played their role in all of this.”
