Cesc Fabregas agrees to take over as RB Leipzig head coach

Fabregas has given his verbal consent to join Leipzig this summer

Cesc Fabregas has reportedly agreed to join RB Leipzig after discussions with Jurgen Klopp, but Como are unlikely to allow their manager to leave.

Following a successful 2024/25 campaign with the Italian side, where he helped Como finish 10th in Serie A, Fabregas has attracted interest from several top European clubs.

One of these is Bundesliga team RB Leipzig, who are currently searching for a new head coach.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Fabregas has given his verbal consent to join Leipzig this summer after talks with Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, Klopp.

However, it remains uncertain whether the Spaniard will manage the Saxons next season, as Como have reportedly rejected every offer received for Fabregas.

Earlier, Fabregas was linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen to replace Xabi Alonso.

However, the former Bundesliga champions later appointed former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their new head coach.

Leverkusen, who finished second in the Bundesliga this season, have turned to the Dutchman following his dismissal from Man United in October.

The 55-year-old has signed a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until 2027.

“With Erik ten Hag we have brought in an experienced coach with impressive success on the pitch. His six title wins at Ajax were exceptional,” said Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes.

“With three league titles and two domestic cup wins he and Ajax dominated Dutch football from 2018 to 2022.

“Our ideas of football coincide. With technically demanding and dominant football, we want to carry on in the Werkself style and aim for the highest targets in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League.”

Fabregas is also expected to return to Barcelona this summer, as Como might be invited to participate in the Joan Gamper Trophy during the pre-season.
