While negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs and with the 23-year-old player, all parties now anticipate that the transfer will be finalized soon. Ait-Nouri has become City’s primary target to strengthen their options at left-back, having impressed over four seasons since moving to Wolves on a permanent basis.
The French defender’s move to City would mark a significant upgrade in their defensive line, especially after his standout performances since joining Wolves. Ait-Nouri initially joined Wolves on loan from Angers before making the switch permanent.
Throughout his time at Wolves, he has made 157 appearances, contributing five goals and seven assists in all competitions this season alone, showcasing his attacking capabilities and defensive reliability.
City’s current options at left-back have seen some rotation, with central defender Josko Gvardiol and academy graduate Nico O’Reilly filling in for different periods.
Gvardiol was the most regular in the position earlier in the season, but O’Reilly’s impressive displays towards the end of the campaign have added competition. The potential arrival of Ait-Nouri is expected to provide a more consistent and attacking threat from the left flank.
In addition to squad improvements, Manchester City are preparing for their upcoming fixtures, including the Club World Cup in the United States.
In the tournament’s group stage, they will face Wydad AC, Al Ain, and Juventus, as part of the expanded competition format. The team will be looking to defend their title and showcase their talent on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Wolverhampton are set to lose another key player this summer, with Matheus Cunha’s move to Manchester United confirmed on Sunday.
The transfer window continues to shape up as Wolves prepare for life without some of their top talents, while City look to strengthen their squad in pursuit of more silverware.
