Man United enter race to sign Chelsea target Hugo Ekitike

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Chelsea and Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike, according to Sky Sports Germany.
United have reportedly made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to register an interest in the 22-year-old French striker.
The Red Devils are exploring the conditions of a potential deal for Eintracht Frankfurt star, with Frankfurt demanding around £85 million (€100m) for Ekitike, who has four years left on his contract.

United are keen on a mission to revamp their squad for next season, prioritizing the striker option, following a dismal performance by the pair, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, who netted only four and three goals in the Premier League, respectively.
Despite the arrival of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and the potential signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, Ruben Amorim’s side are looking to bring in a more reliable frontman.
Aside from Ekitike, who is being coveted by United, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is also reportedly being eyed as one of the players they like for that position, and they have explored a deal for the Sporting striker through intermediaries.

Gyokeres has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting this summer for offers above £58m (€70m) despite a release clause of around £84m (€100m).
However, Sporting club president, Fredrico Varandas, has dispelled any existence of a “gentleman’s agreement” with Gyokeres’ agent that potentially allows United and Arsenal target to leave for a fixed fee of £50.8m (€60m) plus £8.4m (€10m) in add-ons.

Gyokeres bagged 54 goals in 52 games last season for the Portuguese champions, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League, having scored 43 in 50 in the 2023/24 campaign.
United are in the market for a striker regardless, plunging Hujlund’s future under serious uncertainty. Even though the Danish forward has said he is not considering leaving the club, and will fight for his place next season.
The Manchester club now has several strikers available in the market to choose from, and the addition of Ekitike doesn’t make things any easier for the likes of Hujlund and Zirkzee going into a busy summer transfer window.
