AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri confirms Mike Maignan stay

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that goalkeeper Mike Maignan will remain at San Siro beyond this summer, despite interest from Premier League club Chelsea.

Allegri has emphasized that Maignan’s future lies with the Rossoneri in Serie A, following Chelsea’s unsuccessful attempt to sign the French goalkeeper last month.

Although advanced negotiations between Chelsea and Milan took place in June, a disagreement over the transfer fee caused the deal to fall through, and Allegri has now definitively ruled out any possibility of a renewed move this summer.

Chelsea were unable to secure an agreement with AC Milan, offering the Rossoneri €10 million (£8.6m), significantly below Milan’s €30 million (£25.8m) valuation, resulting in the deal falling apart on deadline day.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old shot-stopper has just one year left on his contract, fueling speculation over his future with the Milan club.

Maignan had emerged as Chelsea’s priority signing for the goalkeeping department this summer, with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen considered less reliable long-term options.

The announcement provides significant relief to Milan fans, reinforcing their earlier resistance to losing the French goalkeeper despite contract uncertainties and recent links to the Premier League.

Allegri’s return to AC Milan and his hands-on role in negotiations were instrumental in blocking the transfer, a decision the former Juventus manager has now officially confirmed.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Allegri said: “Maignan remains the captain and is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. I am very happy he decided to stay.”

Chelsea may reconsider the deal in January, but Milan’s firm position indicates limited room for negotiation. For now, Allegri has ruled out any transfer, forcing Chelsea to explore other options.
