Asante Kotoko arrive in Durban ahead of Toyota Cup

Karim Zito will play his first game since his appointment as the substantive coach of the club

Ghanaian giant Asante Kotoko SC have safely arrived in Durban, South Africa, ahead of the highly anticipated Toyota Cup showdown against Kaizer Chiefs.

The two-time CAF Champions League winners departed Ghana on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at exactly 9:40 PM from the Kotoka International Airport and touched down at the King Shaka International Airport in Durban at 7:40 AM local time.

Asante Kotoko’s coach, Abdul Karim Zito, announced a 25-man travelling squad that includes all eleven of the newly signed players.

The Porcupine Warriors received a warm welcome from officials of Amakhosi on arrival and are lodged in at the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice.

Kotoko will take a day off and resume full training on Thursday as they prepare for the important match scheduled for Saturday at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Coach Karim Zito is set to manage his first game as the newly confirmed coach of the club, following his performances at the end of the last campaign..

Zito led the Porcupine Warriors to victory in both the FA Cup and the President Cup after taking over from Prosper Ogum as interim coach.

The Toyota Cup encounter is expected to be a thrilling display of African football, with both giants having a history in the renamed Cup Final and this presents the opportunity for two heavyweights to showcase their strength, heritage, and passion.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 GMT, and fans can expect a thrilling encounter between two of Africa’s most respected football institutions.
