A dream start for Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars
Kotoko break 15-year Berekum jinx with 1-0 victory over Chelsea

Asante Kotoko opened their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Saturday.
A second-half strike from Albert Amoah handed the Porcupine Warriors their first victory in Berekum since 2010, ending a 15-year wait.

Both sides delivered an intense contest in the first half, with neither team able to break the deadlock despite persistent attacking efforts. Defenses held firm, forcing the opening 45 minutes to end goalless.
The breakthrough finally came in the 79th minute. Hubert Gyau’s relentless pressing in midfield won back possession, and he quickly released Amoah with a perfectly timed long pass. The forward surged into the box and unleashed a low drive past the Chelsea goalkeeper, who will feel he should have done better.
Kotoko’s resilience saw them hold on to claim all three points, a huge morale boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash with Nigeria’s Kwara United next week.

Elsewhere, defending champions Bibiani GoldStars secured a 2-1 victory over Bechem United.
Samuel Atta Kumi was the hero for the Miners with a brilliant brace, while Marvin Oppong netted a consolation for the Hunters.
