William Saliba signs new five-year contract with Arsenal

Arsenal have confirmed William Saliba’s contract extension with the club, fending off interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, who were planning to sign the player next summer.

According to Sky Sports News, Saliba has signed a new five-year contract extension on the last day of September 2025, committing his future at the Emirates Stadium until 2030, after reports emerged last week that Arsenal were close to agreeing a new deal with the player.

The 24-year-old reportedly rejected all advances from Madrid to sign for the Gunners, and will continue to remain a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s solid defence over the past three seasons.

The French defender has formed one of the best defensive partnerships with Brazilian defender Gabriel Maghalhaes in the past two seasons in the Premier League and in Europe.

The French international is now amongst the highest-paid players at the club, a testament to his value, while warding off interest from the Spanish giants.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has been instrumental in the negotiations, and this extension follows renewals for Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Gabriel Magalhães earlier this year.

Following Saliba’s signing, the player expressed his admiration for the club and his motivation to continue with the North London club.

In a statement after signing for Arsenal, Saliba said: “I feel proud of myself because I first signed in 2019 and now I’m still here to extend my contract.”

“I feel at home. It’s the best place to be. I enjoy every day when I have the chance to wear this shirt”.

Meanwhile, Arsenal further confirmed the signing with another post on the club’s official X(Twitter) page, expressing their delight in extending Saliba’s contract for a further five years.
