Liverpool to hijack Semenyo move from Man City

Liverpool have emerged as a strong contender to secure the signature of one of the Premier League’s most sought-after forwards, Antoine Semenyo, from Bournemouth, who is reportedly in line to sign for Manchester City in January.

The Reds have been linked with the move for the Ghana international throughout the season, following a stellar campaign last season, where he recorded 16-goal contributions in all competitions for Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old, however, extended his contract with the Cherries in the summer with along-term deal in July 2025 until 2030.

The Bournemouth star has been one of the best performers in the Premier League, scoring nine goals, including two against the Reds at Anfield, and now he’s being tipped for a move to one of the league’s top sides.

However, Liverpool and Man City are not the only Premier League clubs keen for the signature of the former Bristol City winger. Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea are reported as key contenders for the signature of Semenyo.

The Blues have reportedly backtracked on their decision to sign the Bournemouth star; reports indicate that the Bournemouth star, Semenyo, has picked Man City over Man United.

Now, Liverpool are ready pull a fast one by hijacking the Cityzens’ deal for Semenyo, who is tipped to be on the move next month when his £65 million release clause becomes active in January.

Antoine Semenyo to City, now Liverpool are also interested.

According to Daily Mail reports, sporting director Richard Hughes is considering raiding his former club again after showing little interest in securing Semenyo’s signature earlier on.

Semenyo is viewed as the ideal replacement for the Egyptian and Liverpool legend, Mohammed Salah, who could move on in the coming months.

The Bournemouth star is keen to have his departure sorted by January. Journalist David Ornstein, claimed last week that Antoine Semenyo has chosen Manchester City as his preferred January destination.

A further meeting is now set to be held at the start of this week between City and Semenyo’s representatives with hopes an agreement can be reached imminently.

But until a deal is signed, Semenyo’s future remains open and Liverpool will look to seize on the fact the door is still open, especially given their struggles this season.

Alexander Isak’s recent injury could prompt Liverpool to intensify their interest in a new forward, but their heavy summer recruitment has left Arne Slot with an embarrassment of attacking riches—creating a selection headache rather than an urgent need.

Semenyo is eager to settle his future quickly, as his favourable release clause expires on January 10—meaning any suitor must move fast if they want to avoid a prolonged transfer saga.

Semenyo will prioritise a club offering consistent trophy contention, and both Man City and Liverpool perfectly fit that ambition.
