The England international was reportedly locked in talks over a fresh agreement that had been ongoing for several weeks. His new contract aligns him with the new ownership pay structure.
The 26-year-old was the last member left on the old regime’s payment plan, which was far different from the BlueCo incentivised wage structure.

The Chelsea academy graduate has previously been linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid, although such rumours faded following his injury problems in recent years and the signing of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer.
The Chelsea star, who is expected to start at right-back for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions’ side at this summer’s World Cup, has made a total of 225 first-team appearances for the Blues, scoring 16 goals and providing 31 assists.

James joined the west London club at the age of six and is now known for his skill, crossing ability, positioning and athleticism, and can play in midfield or in a back three.
During his time at Chelsea, he has won five major trophies as a first-team player at Stamford Bridge, including the 2021 Champions League and last summer’s Conference League and Club World Cup.
