GPL Matchday 29 Wrap: Medeama go top as Hearts and Kotoko stumble

Medeama reclaim top spot with five games to end the campaign

Matchday 29 of the Ghana Premier League served up plenty of goals and entertainment across various venues, with key results impacting both the title race and relegation battle.

On Friday, Aduana Stars dealt a major blow to Bibiani Goldstars’ title hopes with a 2-1 victory at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

Benjamin Tsivanyo opened the scoring before Razak Sanou leveled for the visitors. However, a late penalty from Emmanuel Marfo sealed a crucial home win.

Saturday saw Vision FC stun Accra Hearts of Oak at the Nii Adjei Kraku Park, as Benjamin Kwarteng’s late strike secured a dramatic 1-0 win for the hosts.

On Sunday, Young Apostles boosted their survival chances with a narrow 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks at Wenchi Park. Richmond Opoku’s ninth goal of the season proved decisive.

In Tamale, Karela United were held to a 2-2 draw by Heart of Lions at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Eric Antwi bagged a brace for the hosts, but goals from Michael Ephson and Chauncey Freeman earned the visitors a valuable point.

At Tarkwa, Medeama SC stormed back to the top of the table with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Asante Kotoko at the TNA Park. Salim Adams scored twice, with Manuel Mantey and Kelvin Obeng also getting on the scoresheet in a dominant display.

Samartex continued their fine form with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at Samreboi, courtesy of Alhassan Mankuyali’s decisive strike.

At the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Samuel Tetteh’s two first-half goals was enough to hand Nations FC a 2-0 win over Basake Holy Stars.

Meanwhile, Dreams FC delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, thrashing Eleven Wonders 5-1 at the Tuba Astro Turf. Seidu Suraj grabbed a brace, while Nemordeen, John Antwi, and Godfred Sarpong added a goal each in a commanding display.


The fixture between Hohoe United and Bechem United did not take place, following Hohoe United’s withdrawal from the league.
