Reece James is set to be sidelined with an injury until mid-January

Reece James injury update

Chelsea captain Reece James, who has been out action for Xabi Alonso’s side since October 9 due to an injury he suffered on his knee in training is now set to be sidelined for even longer period after completing a successful minor knee surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for well over three months.

The Chelsea right back has been sidelined with an injury for less than a week, missing out on the Blues’ 5-1 victory against Premier League rivals Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Even though the club has not confirmed which side of his leg the surgery was conducted on, it has issued a statement confirming a successful minor knee injury on the England international.

The 26-year-old has been in and out of the medical room for the past three seasons, and this does not paint a good picture or the defender, especially under new manager Alonso, who is still yet to settle on his starting 11.

In a brief statement by the Chelsea football club, it wished Reece James well in his recovery and rallied their support behind the defender.

“Captain Reece James has undergone successful minor knee surgery.

“The 26-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge while medical assessments took place following the injury suffered in training. Those assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action.

“Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase.

“Everyone at Chelsea wishes Reece a speedy recovery and will support him on his road to return.”

Reece James continues to battle injuries

He is set to miss an extensive number of Premier League games for the Blues, including matches against Sunderland, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Newcastle United, alongside domestic cup commitments.

Before James’ recent injury, he had featured in 6 games in all competitions under Alonso. Mostly being deployed as a deep-lying defensive midfielder rather than his traditional right-back role.
