Razak won the 1978 African footballer of the year award
Abdul Razak fires back at Mohammed Polo over 1978 African Footballer of the year award

Ghanaian legend Abdul Razak has responded to comments made by fellow football icon Mohammed Polo, who questioned the merit of Razak’s 1978 African Footballer of the Year award.
In a recent interview with Tony Muntana on Kessben TV, Razak didn’t mince words, saying Polo should retract his statements and come to his residence if he truly believes the award was undeserved.

Polo had suggested in a previous interview that Abdul Razak wasn’t the most deserving player for the award that year, implying he was more worthy of the accolade.
Razak emphasized his achievements speak for themselves, particularly his instrumental role in Ghana’s 1978 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
He scored crucial goals and delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament, earning him the ultimate individual accolade on the continent.
The Ghanaian football legend also noted that he’s never been one to boast, leaving it to the public and journalists to judge his performances.
“I don’t blow my own horn,” Razak said. “The records are there. Let people decide who was the best.”
The exchange between two of Ghana’s most talented players of the 1970s has sparked debate among football fans, who respect both legends for their skills and contributions to Ghanaian football.
While Razak was known for his pace, positioning, and clutch performances, Polo was renowned for his dribbling and flair, earning him the nickname “The Dribbling Magician.”
The 1978 African Footballer of the Year title remains Abdul Razak’s, and he appears determined to protect his achievement.
