Accra Lions hand Kotoko reality check with 3-0 win

Accra Lions delivered a stunning 3-0 win over Asante Kotoko in an outstanding Matchday 22 encounter of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for Accra Lions, propelling them out of the relegation zone and breathing new life into their season.

The match got off to a lively start, with Accra Lions asserting their dominance and piling pressure on Kotoko’s defense from the onset.
The Porcupines struggled to cope with the Lions’ tempo, and it was only a matter of time before they conceded.
Jacob Awoute broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, slotting home a well-taken goal after Kotoko’s goalkeeper had denied Osman with a stunning save that hit the goalpost.
Lions doubled their lead just before halftime, courtesy of a clinical finish from Yao Sokpoli in the 40th minute. The penalty-box strike was the perfect reward for Accra Lions’ relentless pressure, and it left Kotoko reeling at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Accra Lions continuing to dictate the pace of the game. Despite Kotoko’s best efforts, they couldn’t find their footing, and the Lions’ defense remained resolute.
The icing on the cake came when David Akintunde sealed the win with a brilliant finish, putting the game beyond Kotoko’s reach.
This defeat marked the end of Kotoko’s impressive unbeaten run, which had seen them go consecutive games without a defeat since their loss to Nsoatreman FC.
The Porcupines had been in scintillating form, and their confidence had been sky-high. However, Accra Lions’ determined display brought them back down to earth.
The 3-0 victory has significantly improved Accra Lions’ fortunes, lifting them out of the relegation zone and boosting their survival hopes.
Meanwhile, Kotoko’s defeat has seen them slip to third place, as other teams in the league capitalize on their misfortune.
