Amorim says he’s made more mistakes than Onana and is fully behind him
Amorim backs Onana despite errors in United’s draw with Lyon

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has stood behind André Onana after two mistakes cost his team in their 2–2 draw with Lyon in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night.
United twice took the lead at Groupama Stadium but were pegged back on both occasions, with Onana’s blunders playing a direct role in Lyon’s goals.

Prior to the game, the Cameroonian faced backlash on social media for making some remarks that were contested by former United player Nemanja Matic, and Onana seems to have played into the Serbian’s hands once again.
United could have left with an even better result but for Onana’s errors, yet Amorim refused to scapegoat his keeper in his post match interview, stating that the team is fully behind their first choice goalkeeper.
“Onana? If you look at the season, I’ve made more mistakes than the players during these last months. It happens,” Amorim said.
“It can happen if you play football and a lot of games — you will make mistakes. We support each other, we trust each other, and we move forward together”, he added.

United looked dangerous for many spells in attack with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Højlund, and will have the home advantage to help them progress to the next round of the competition in the second leg at Old Trafford next week.
