Jurrien Timber to extend his contract at Arsenal beyond 2028

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with versatile defender Jurrien Timber over a new contract, with discussions ongoing, per the reports.

Negotiations are reportedly in their initial phase, but both parties are keen to extend the current deal beyond its 2028 expiration.

Arsenal signed the 24-year-old defender from Ajax in a deal worth in the region of £38 million on a five-year deal two seasons ago.

The center-back is a product of the Ajax academy and made 160 appearances for the club before moving to north London to join Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Gunners paid an initial fee of just over £34 million for the Netherlands international, with the remaining £4 million payable in performance-related add-ons.

He joined the Premier League club as a right-back but is versatile enough to play at centre-back, having previously drawn interest from Manchester United before securing a move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal manager Arteta has confirmed the new deal, while fully convinced that the Dutch centre-back will commit to the club for more than the next three seasons.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have finalized a contract extension for compatriot William Saliba, who has penned a new five-year deal, alongside securing agreements with academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The club is now set to renew the contract of English international Bukayo Saka, who has just under two years remaining on his current contract.

The 24-year-old is set to sign a five-year deal, following in the footsteps of Saliba. Saka is expected to receive a significant wage increase when he signs his proposed new contract.

Sources have indicated that the winger’s salary could reach up to £300,000 per week, making him the club’s highest earner.

The winger is one of the important figures in the Arsenal squad, and his contract extension is seen as a priority for sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Arteta.
