Arsenal set to give Liverpool guard of honour at Anfield

Arsenal are set to give Liverpool a guard of honour at Anfield this weekend, with the Gunners highly likely to follow Chelsea’s example, according to the Daily Mail.
It is believed that Mikel Arteta’s side, who at one point were the only team capable of stopping Liverpool’s title charge, will form two lines to applaud their rivals onto the pitch.
The decision is seen within the club as a gesture of sportsmanship.

Although providing a guard of honour to the champions is not compulsory, and there is no requirement in the Premier League rulebook for clubs to do so, it has become a tradition in recent years.
In 2013, for example, Arsenal applauded Manchester United onto the field as Robin van Persie returned to the Emirates.
While Arsenal’s own title challenge has ended, they are still in the hunt for success in the Champions League.
The Gunners face Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital tomorrow night, looking to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and reach the final.

Arne Slot said he didn’t hear Chelsea fans booing Liverpool’s guard of honour, as the head coach instead praised the away support at Stamford Bridge last Sunday.
“They (Chelsea fans) booed for their team? Oh, they were booing for us,” the Liverpool boss said. “I didn’t hear it to be honest, I only heard our fans during almost the whole game.
“I just heard that they couldn’t come here with trains, so they had to go by car, but they were in time and they were loud throughout the whole game.
“So I haven’t heard anyone booing. I’ve only heard our fans singing.”
