Arsenal to open talks with Bukayo Saka over new contract

Saka signed his current contract in 2022

Arsenal are set to begin formal negotiations with Bukayo Saka over a new contract as the forward enters the final two years of his current deal, according to BBC Sport.

Saka has been sidelined since December due to a significant hamstring injury sustained during Arsenal’s victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The injury required surgery, keeping him out of action for an extended period.

Despite his absence, Saka’s importance to Mikel Arteta’s team remains unquestioned, and the club is preparing to meet with the player’s representatives to discuss a contract extension.

Arsenal are keen to avoid any uncertainty surrounding the future of one of their star players and will prioritise securing Saka to a long-term deal.

The 23-year-old signed his current contract, which is understood to be worth at least £10 million per season, in 2022.

That deal is set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, and early steps toward opening formal talks have already been initiated. Discussions are expected to pick up pace in the near future.

However, Arsenal remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached, especially given their rise as title contenders under Arteta.

The club’s continued participation in the Champions League could also play a significant role in persuading Saka to commit to a new contract.

For now, Saka is focused on his recovery following his hamstring surgery. After Sunday’s win over Chelsea, Arteta stated that Saka has a good chance of returning to action soon after the current international break.

Arsenal’s next match is against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on April 1.
