Barcelona forward Ferran Torres set to miss rest of season

Barcelona have announced that Ferran Torres underwent emergency surgery for appendicitis and is now expected to miss the rest of the season.
Torres has been in excellent form this campaign, often serving as Barcelona’s super-substitute across their front three.
The 25-year-old struggled for consistency under Xavi Hernandez following his move from Manchester City and had even considered leaving the club.

However, the arrival of Hansi Flick changed his mind, and Torres decided to stay.
Initially, Torres’ decision to remain at Barcelona seemed surprising, as he was expected to be behind Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha in the pecking order.
While that remained largely true for much of the season, Torres eventually became an integral squad member, contributing 26 goal involvements, mostly off the bench.
Barca confirmed that Ferran Torres is likely out for the remainder of the season after undergoing emergency appendectomy surgery on Wednesday.
“The first team player Ferran Torres has undergone successful surgery on 14 May for appendicitis,” a club statement read.
“The operation was carried by Doctors Coroleu and Borras at the Hospital de Barcelona under the supervision of the Club’s Medical staff.
“The striker from Valencia has had a prolific 2024/25 with goals and assists, scoring 19 times and creating seven goals, three of which came in the vital 4-3 win over Real Madrid at Montjuïc on Sunday.”

The Spaniard had been experiencing abdominal pain and underwent tests at Hospital de Barcelona before the operation.
Flick’s side face Espanyol in La Liga later tonight, with a chance to move closer to the league title if they defeat their bitter local rivals.
However, the starting lineup for the attack remains uncertain, as Lewandowski is also recovering from injury and was on the bench during their crucial win over Real Madrid.
With Torres sidelined and Lewandowski not yet fully fit, it’s possible that teenage sensation Ansu Fati could be given the nod to start in the crucial clash.
