The 22-year-old struggled for playing time last season at Liverpool, having made an impressive senior breakthrough the previous campaign.

Quansah made just four Premier League starts under Arne Slot, who preferred Ibrahima Konate as Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner as the Reds clinched a record-equalling 20th title.

The Englishman frequently featured in the cup competitions, where he made nine starts, including featuring at right-back in the League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

Romano posted on X: “Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, here we go! Deal agreed for £30m initial fee plus £5m add-ons.

“Exclusive detail: Liverpool will have a buy back clause for Quansah to keep future control of the player. Contract until June 2030.”

Jarell Quansah previously disclosed that he believes he is in the right place “to take the next step”.

“It’s definitely developing,” said Quansah. “I’m not getting too high or too low with anything.

“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football. From Bristol Rovers (where he spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan) until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step.

“It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.

“As for the future, it’ll put me in the best stead if I just keep my head down and keep working.”
