The interest, initially sparked during the January transfer window, has intensified as Bayern seeks to bolster its attacking options following the injury of Jamal Musiala, sidelined for at least four months.

In January, Bayern attempted to negotiate a deal with Chelsea involving young talent Mathys Tel to reduce Nkunku’s valuation, but the move stalled, partly because Tel has since moved permanently to Tottenham Hotspur, a fierce rival of Chelsea.

Without the possibility of including a player exchange, Bayern is now focusing on a straightforward transfer, although Chelsea’s asking price remains a sticking point, with figures reported around £50-60 million.

His frustration at Stamford Bridge and desire for a fresh start have made a return to Germany, where he previously excelled with RB Leipzig, an attractive proposition for both player and club.

Bayern’s interest is also linked to their ongoing search for attacking reinforcements, with Luis Díaz from Liverpool also on their radar.

Nkunku is viewed as a versatile option who can operate centrally or on the wing, making him a suitable temporary replacement for Musiala while also adding depth for the squad’s long-term plans.
