Bayern Munich has confirmed that the German international has extended his contract with the Bundesliga leaders until 2029 after weeks of speculation and uncertainty about his stay at the Allianz Arena.
The 30-year-old signed a four-year deal with previous contract set to expire this year – the agreement will keep him there until 2029.
The German national team captain indicated following Bayern’s 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, which secured their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals how positively the environment at Bayern will continue to help in his football goals.
“Bayern provides the perfect environment for me to achieve my football goals,” he stated. “The team, coaches, and club create the best conditions for success. I feel at home here. My journey is not yet complete.” – Joshua Kimmich
Kimmich, a potential captain
Kimmich is widely considered a potential future captain for Bayern Munich after Manuel Neuer.
He joined the club from Stuttgart in 2015, following a two-year spell at RB Leipzig. Since his arrival, he has played 429 matches for Bayern, scoring 43 goals and providing 115 assists.
He has won numerous trophies, including eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020. He has also earned 97 caps for the German national team.

Sporting Director Christoph Freund could not hide his admiration for Kimmich’s contract extention and professionalism.
He commended his contribution, “Joshua drives our team forward,” Freund said. “He is relentless. He will continue to lead Bayern’s progress.”
Bayern are eight points clear of second-placed reigning champions Bayern Leverkusen. They are also in the Champions League quarterfinals, where they will face Inter Milan in April.
