Bechem Utd’s Kofi Tompuo fires thinly-veiled dig at Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak and Bechem United are now pegged on 36 points apiece

Bechem United playmaker Kofi Tompuo has subtly criticised Hearts of Oak for their game plan in Wednesday’s Ghana Premier League encounter.

Tompuo scored the only goal in the 52nd minute, leading the Hunters to a 1-0 victory over Hearts at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

In his post-match comments, Tompuo took aim at Hearts of Oak’s lacklustre strategy, suggesting their approach was not up to the expected standard.

‘Their plan was to hit long balls at every opportunity,” Tompuo said via Joy Sports. “Conversely, we came to possess the ball, be expressive and fluid.

“That is because our midfielders are very comfortable with the ball and can retain possession for long spells.”

Tompuo, who was on target against both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in separate victories, also highlighted the team’s winning mentality.

The victory moves them up to 4th place in the league table, just four points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.

”Hearts of Oak is a big team and everyone watches you when you face them, and it comes with expectations too,” he added.

“Already, every member of the team was determined to win the match and once we get into that mood at home, we always win.”

Bechem United are currently the best-performing team in the league – having secured nine wins and two draws. The Hunters remain unbeaten at home, having accumulated 29 of their 36 points from home games.
