Chelsea must pay £5m to pull out of Jadon Sancho deal

Sancho joined Chelsea from Man United on a season-long loan in August

Chelsea will need to pay Manchester United a £5m fee if they choose not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent basis this summer.

The 24-year-old winger joined Chelsea on a season-long loan in August, with an obligation to buy between £20m and £25m, provided Chelsea finish at least 14th in the Premier League this season.

Currently, Chelsea are in fourth place, with nine games remaining in the season.

However, as first reported by The Athletic, a clause exists allowing Chelsea to send Sancho back to Old Trafford, provided they pay United £5m in compensation.

Chelsea have previously stated that they are not considering that option, but doubts remain over whether Sancho will remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season.

Sancho had joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the second half of last season after a fallout with former United boss Erik ten Hag, triggered by the Dutchman’s public criticism of his performances in training.

Since joining Chelsea, he has only scored twice in 29 games. As for assists, Sancho has managed just three since providing three assists in his first three games for the club.
