Pedro Neto receives extra punishment for arsenal red card

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has been issued with a one-match ban and a fine for his actions during their Premier League fixture after picking two yellow cards.

The Chelsea attacker got booked for dissent for his first yellow towards referee Darren England shortly before the 70th minute in a feisty encounter between the sides.

Neto received his matching orders, his second yellow of the day in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to league leaders Arsenal for bringing down Gabriel Martinelli in the London derby on 1 March, to halt an Arsenal counterattack.

He has now been issued further punishment for his avoidable actions on the night, after an independent Regulatory Commission finally arrived at a final verdict on the incident.

The FA said in a statement: “Pedro Neto has been given a one-match suspension and a £70,000 fine for misconduct that occurred after he was sent off in Chelsea’s Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday 1 March

“It was alleged that the player acted in an improper manner by failing to leave the pitch promptly and/or using abusive words towards the match official/s following his dismissal in the 70th minute.

“Pedro Neto subsequently admitted the charge against him. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing, and the written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course.”

The red card received by the Portuguese international takes the Blues’ tally to 10 in all competitions this season (9 for players, 1 for former manager Enzo Maresca), including a Premier League-leading 7 player dismissals.

Key players sent off include Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Pedro Neto
