Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has called for a dignified exit for Black Stars captain Andre Ayew amid growing speculation surrounding his future with the national team.
Ayew, who has been a key figure for the Black Stars since 2007, has not been called up since March 2024, despite impressive performances at club level with Le Havre in the French Ligue 1.
The 35-year-old forward has netted five goals this season, with four of them coming in recent matches, yet his national team future remains uncertain.
With Otto Addo set to name a new Black Stars captain, reports suggest that Jordan Ayew, Andre’s younger brother, is the frontrunner to take over the armband.
This has sparked further speculation that Andre may not be included in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Speaking on Sporty FM’s Drive Show, Agyemang-Badu said: “Andre knows his body more than I do. If he feels good, is performing well for his club, and the coach wants him, fine.
“The decision to continue or stop should be his. I just don’t want anyone to leave the national team with bitterness.”
Andre Ayew is Ghana’s Most Capped Player
Andre Ayew is Ghana’s most capped player, with over 120 appearances.
Ayew, who made his debut for Ghana in 2008, has represented the national team in multiple AFCON tournaments and World Cups.

At youth level, he captained the under-20 team that won both the 2009 African Youth Championship and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Ayew has participated in three FIFA World Cups (2010, 2014, and 2022) and eight Africa Cup of Nations (2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023), helping the team finish as runners-up in 2010 and 2015, where he was also the tournament’s top goalscorer.
