For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, the 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will feature a halftime show, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed.
The performance will be produced with the help of Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin and the band’s manager Phil Harvey, though Infantino did not confirm whether Coldplay or Martin will actually perform.
Potential Halftime Extension?
Infantino also did not specify whether the halftime duration would be extended beyond the usual 15 minutes to accommodate the show.
“This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world,” Infantino posted on Instagram following a FIFA conference in Dallas.
FIFA’s New York City Takeover
In addition to the halftime show, FIFA has announced a major event takeover of Times Square in New York City for the final weekend of the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by 16 cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with the final set to take place in New Jersey.
