Florentina are eyeing a one-year contract extension for David De Gea, who has impressed at the Italian side since joining last summer.

De Gea departed Manchester United in 2023, and was without a club for almost a year before Florentina came calling for his services.

This season, the Spanish goalkeeper has proved to be crucial in goal for the Italian side, who sit in eighth place on the Serie A table, only four points off the top four places.

The club’s president Rocco Commisso says Florentina is on course to renew De Gea’s contract for a further year, insisting that his performances have earned him a place in the team’s future.

“David De Gea will stay with us also next season, he has shown us why and we are happy with him”, he said to the club’s media.

David De Gea was once held liable for the lack of consistency from Manchester United’s defence, but he’s moved on and is proving to the world why he was once considered the best goalkeeper in the game for many years in England.

Florentina host Parma on Sunday afternoon, aiming for all three points, and the Spanish goalkeeper will be in goal to ensure their top four dreams remain intact.
