Former Accra Hearts of Oak CEO, Harry Zakour, has expressed optimism about the club’s performance in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, the veteran football administrator highlighted the team’s significant improvement compared to the same stage last season.

“Last season, by this time, we were battling relegation,” Zakour recalled. “This time, we’re sitting sixth on the table. It’s progress, and I hope we finish in the top four.”

With just four games remaining, Hearts of Oak find themselves in a much stronger position than they were a year ago. The club, renowned for its rich history in Ghanaian football, endured a turbulent campaign last season marked by inconsistency and fears of relegation.

However, under new technical leadership and improved performances, the Phobians have climbed to sixth place and are within reach of a top-four finish.

Zakour, who led the club during its historic CAF Champions League triumph in 2000, remains a respected figure in Ghanaian football. His endorsement could serve as a morale boost for both players and supporters as the season approaches its climax.

Hearts of Oak face a crucial run-in, with remaining fixtures against Berekum Chelsea, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, and Samartex. Although a title challenge is out of reach, securing a top-four spot remains a realistic and motivating goal. The Phobians currently sit six points behind fourth-placed Asante Kotoko.

Zakour believes things will get better with time as the Phobians try to find their fortunes in the Ghana Premier League and the African continent as a whole. The last time the Phobians won the Ghana Premier League was in the 2020/2021 season under Samuel Boadu.
