GFA boss Kurt Okraku hails MTN’s $2m boost for Ghana Football

The sponsorship will address key operational needs and fosters competition for upcoming championships.

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to MTN Ghana CEO, Stephen Blewett, for what he described as a significant investment in the country’s youth through football.

MTN Ghana has signed a landmark two-year sponsorship deal worth $2 million with the GFA, becoming headline sponsor for the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets. The agreement runs from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027.

Highlighting the importance of the partnership, Okraku said:

“The belief is that if you invest in the youth of today, you will probably have a better tomorrow. Isn’t that apparent? Absolutely. MTN and Ghana have always shown leadership and believed in our collective tomorrow, for which reason we are here today to announce this partnership worth two million dollars.”

He noted that the investment will ensure the national teams receive top-class preparations for major competitions.

“Unless you’ve sat in this seat for even a day, you won’t truly understand the struggles of nurturing talents like the Starlets into the John Paintsils and Fatau Daudas of tomorrow. It’s not easy. The biggest challenge we’ve faced as an association has now been solved by MTN.”

Okraku added that the sponsorship would not only address key operational needs but also put the teams in a competitive mood for upcoming championships.
